The world looks different today than it did a few years ago. OK, that is an obvious statement, but it’s not necessarily a negative one. The silver lining amid all of this change is the focus on flexibility and individualization in work and education that has surfaced in many industries — and the veterinary industry is no exception. Enter VetFolio, whose very mission statement reflects this idea.
VetFolio is powered and backed by the NAVC and offers hundreds of hours of high-quality education categorized into five learning styles for an easy-to-navigate database of resources. VetFolio is a place for those who believe learning goes beyond CE and becomes a part of your daily routine — wherever and whenever you want.
Let me tell you about my experience with VetFolio from a more personal point of view. I am a mother of two who also works multiple jobs, including running my own practice. It goes without saying that I value having an extensive library of continuing education readily accessible and in multiple formats. If I am driving or doing chores around the house I can turn on a podcast. These podcasts are packed with practical information; even though I host the VetFolio Voice podcast and have already become familiar with the featured topics, there have been multiple times when I have gone back to write down specific details from an episode for future use. Or, when I have more time and want to take a deep dive into a topic, I can turn on a webinar or read an article. More recently we started recording episodes of Vet2Vet, a video series that dives into topics such as disease processes, procedures, new products and more.
One of my favorite learning modalities is the “microlearning” platform. These “snack sized” short-form videos (often available in VR!) are perfect when I want to review a piece of a concept or procedure, such as the technique for placing a dental block correctly or how to measure left ventricular size without going into a full discussion of physiology. I often learn by doing, so these are exceptionally convenient, allowing me to take five to 10 minutes just prior to a procedure to review, and then going forward and performing it myself.
It’s important to note that none of these learning options are designed solely for veterinarians. There are opportunities for the entire veterinary team, from veterinary nurses/technicians to CSRs to practice managers.
But I have yet to touch on what is perhaps the most valuable part of VetFolio: the team that brings it all together. The dedication to quality, up-to-date, easily accessible and customized learning that this team brings to the table is something to behold. So know that whatever your education needs may be — whether you need something on-the-go or you are interested in the more detailed ins and outs of a certain topic — there is a dedicated team here to bring you the CE experience you are looking for.
